Fun English for Continuous Use

Written by: Ramdan Nugraha

The idea came up after I directly experienced the process of teaching speaking class.  I need to highlight firstly about speaking skill. It is an output skill that should principally represent the learners’ mastery of English as foreign language. Speaking is clearly categorized as one of the most important skills  which needs to be mastered well by the learners since it has been internationally spoken in the daily activities .
The experts recently found many ways of delivering the art of teaching speaking for teachers to implement, but most of both experts and teachers unconsciously forgot about the main purpose of speaking as a tool of oral communication that should be spoken by those who have been learning it for long time. It because of the concern was just led upon the beautiful and interesting ways of teaching but it did not absolutely work well to get English in use.
English as foreign language(EFL) teachers have beautifully improved the style of teaching English. It would be defined as successful teaching as long as the learners were happy whatever the reason was. But in fact, they forgot about the learners’ awareness to use it in their daily needs after they happily studied at the classroom - such as having conversation with new friends abroad, writing an English electronic mail for giving some informations to people, or further, they create a blog for actively implementing the real use of English in real situation.
Solution that is technically able to do is facilitating the learners to use English regularly out of the class by creating weekly or daily (if we could) events such as; “share your weekly experience”, it could be done informally through some digital media such as blog as writing which is possibly mixed up with story telling, or simple outing programs which are held around school’s area; talking under the trees, discuss at the cafetaria, story telling at the basketball court, and so on. It should be done together with good guidance and progress assessment from the teachers as well. It looks simple but still fun, and also brings the learners into continuous activities that will be unconsciously done by them. At least, they sincerely implement their speaking skill without any compulsion.
