Bismillaahirrohmaanirrohiim.
Philosophy can probably be stated as the love of truth. The philosophy will
be understood well if the thoughts are guided by knowledge in its process to be
an interpretation of study. The philosophy of Muhammadiyah deals with how the
group (Muhammadiyah) views Islam as the religion with different understanding
compared to other Islamic groups. These differences are not only things
known in common, but they also influence the way of Muhammadiyah followers
in interpreting the meaningful values in their daily life.
Some Islamic groups in Indonesia beside Muhammadiyah, they focus on doing
the practical traditions which have been derived from the old generations
without any adaptation even in the way of building up the point of view of new
cases appear todays such as technology, science, and so on. Some groups still strongly
believe what their grandfather and grandmother have been doing until today is what they
should believe without any exception. If some do different things, it means that
they do something wrong and need to go back to the right track.
When some groups do the ritual which is just done based on the old
tradition no matter how hard they make it, for them, it will be the
high-valuable action of being a good creature in life. However, Muhammadiyah
has different understanding on raising the religious faith, it will be good to
use the money or things for ritual in more beneficial and progressive ways to
building up Islam instead, such as: donate the money for facilitating the Islamic teachers
to deliver Islam’s values around the world, or building up the Islamic schools
which can be accessed by learners to get better value of life. Those are some
differences of what Muhammadiyah has been doing since K.H. Ahmad Dahlan in 1912
declared Muhammadiyah as the Islamic group for giving better values of
viewing things in this life.
